Carloman I King of The was born about 0715 in Mosell, Austrasia, France.1 Carloman I King of The's father was Charles Martel "The Hammer" King Of France and his mother was Rotrude De Treves. His paternal grandparents were Pepin II King Of Heristal and Alpaide (Aupais) Of Austrasia; his maternal grandparents were Leutwinus De Treves and Willigar Of Agilofinges. He had three brothers and three sisters, named *Pepin III "The Short" King Of, Bernard Of The, Jerome, Landree Wife Of Sigrand, Chiltrude (Hiltrude) Of and Auda (Aldane). He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Landrade, Heironymus, Miss and Daughter Of Charles. He died in Cassino Monastary, Monte Cassino, Frosinone, Italy.1 General Notes

CARLOMAN (d. 754), mayor of the palace under the Merovingian kings, was a son of Charles Martel and brother to Pippin III the Short. After inheriting Austrasia, Alemannia, Thuringia, and the suzerainty of Bavaria from his father, Carloman fought alone and with his brother to suppress external enemies and rebellious subjects. Concerned with reform of the church, he called on St. Boniface for help and in 742 summoned the first Frankish council in nearly 50 years; in 743 the Synod of Estinnes regulated the problem of church lands seized by Charles Martel and granted out to his vassals. He extended the power of the Franks in various wars and strengthened the church in the lands under his rule. In 747 Carloman retired to a monastery which he founded on Monte Soracte, but subsequently entered a monastery on Monte Casino. He died at Vienne on Aug. 17, 754.
