Janje was born in August 1881 in Grundy Co., Ia.1   Janje's father was Tjark Fluth and her mother was Jantje.  Her paternal grandparents were Freede Fluth and Hiske. She had a brother and two sisters, named Fred G., Hiske and Hiemke.  She was the youngest of the four children.
