Galfridus Geoffrey was born about 1180 in Defford, Worcestershire, England.1 Galfridus Geoffrey's father was Thomas Despencer and his mother was Rohese Seagrave. His paternal grandparents were Almaric Despencer and Amabel (Maud) De Chesney. He had a brother and two sisters, named Hugh, Muriel and Rohesia. He was the oldest of the four children.
