Her paternal grandparents were Stefan Visconti and Valentina Doria; her maternal grandparents were Mastino II Della Scala and Taddea De Carrara. She had a brother and four sisters, named Carlo Di', Taddea, Antonia Di Milano, Maddalena and Elisabetta. She was the second oldest of the six children.
