His paternal grandparents were Theobald Fitzwalter Boteler and Maud Le Vavasour; his maternal grandparents were Nicholas De Verdon and Joan De Lacy. He had a sister named Maud De Botiller. He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-brother named Theobald Le Botiller. He died at the age of 48 on October 21st, 1274 in Poitou, France.
