Robert was born in 1703 in Scituate, Plymouth Co, Massachusetts. Robert's father was James Whitcomb and his mother was Mary Parker. His paternal grandparents were Robert Whitcomb and Mary Cudworth; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Parker and Sarah Wise. He had two brothers named James and Nathaniel.
