Ruth was born about 1695 in Garrison Fort,Baltimore. Maryland.  Ruth's father was Joseph Hawkins and her mother was Elizabeth Griffith.  Her paternal grandparents were John Hawkins and Mary Dewes. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Augustine Austin, Sarah, Jemima and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the six children.
