Mary Emily was born about 1847 in Carroll Co,Ark.  Mary Emily's father was Samuel Thompson Allred and her mother was Anna Bunch.  Her maternal grandparents were Nathaniel F. Bunch and Sarah Wade Ray. She had seven brothers and eleven sisters, named Nathaniel, John, John, Isaiah, Calvin, Reuben Kirby, Nelson, Frances, Obedience, Sarah, Phoebe, Nancy, Anna, Orlena, Adeline, Susan, Eliza Jane and Cynthia.  She was the eighth youngest of the nineteen children.
