PT-gye-2 MARY PROWSE, was married, as a child, apparently by marriage settlement in 1509, to JOHN GYE, son evidently, of John Gye, by his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Edmund Spencer. She was of full age in 1520 and brought to her husband the manors of Poughill and doddridge in Sandford, with other lands in co. Devon. In 1516 she and her husband claimed the lands of Thomas Prowse in Poughill, Dodderidge, Ilsington, and elsewhere. She was heir general of Upcot in Cheriton FitzPaine, co. Devon, which had once belonged to her great-uncle, Nicholas Radford, the noted judge who was murdered about 1455. JOHN GYE died on 14 AUg 1536.
