William was born in May 1198 in Of,Pembroke,Pembrokeshire,Wales. William's father was William MARSHALL and his mother was Isabel Fitzgilbert De CLARE. His paternal grandparents were John "the Marshall" FITZGILBERT and Sibilla (Sibyl) De SALISBURY; his maternal grandparents were Richard "Strongbow" Fitzgilbert De CLARE and Eva (Aoife) MCMURROUGH. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Gilbert, Richard, Anselm, Walter, Margaret, Maud (Matilda), Eve, Joane, Isabel and Sibyl. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 23 on April 11th, 1222 in Sp. He was buried on April 15th, 1231 in Temple Church,London,Middlesex,England.General Notes
