Her paternal grandparents were John "the Marshall" FITZGILBERT and Sibilla (Sibyl) De SALISBURY; her maternal grandparents were Richard "Strongbow" Fitzgilbert De CLARE and Eva (Aoife) MCMURROUGH. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Gilbert, William, Richard, Anselm, Walter, Margaret, Maud (Matilda), Joane, Isabel and Sibyl. She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
