John "Of Gaunt", Duke of was born in March 1340 in Abbey de St Bavon,Ghent,France.  John "Of Gaunt", Duke of's father was King of England King of En Edward III and his mother was Philippa of Hainaut Queen of England Queen of E.  His maternal grandparents were William III de Avesnes and Jeanne of Valois Countess of Hainaut Countess o. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Edward "The Black"-Prince of, William, Prince of, Lionel, Duke of, Edmund, Prince of England,Duke of, Thomas Woodstock, Isabel-Princess of, Joanna, Joan, Princess of, Blanche, Princess of, Mary, Princess of and Margaret, Princess of.  He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 57 on February 3rd, 1398 in Leiceshire,England.
