Nicholas was born in of Bertholau,Llantrisaint,Monmouthshire,England. Nicholas' father was Edward Kemeys Esquire and his mother was Joan Lewis. His paternal grandparents were George Kemeys Esquire and Blanche Lewis. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Edward, George, Joan, Margaret, Mary and Cecily.
