Notes for JOHN FINLAY:
Is mentioned in a Retour as having, in 1463, one-sixth portion of
Combryeland at Pentecoast, Forfashire, and he figures in differentleases
up to 1497. He died prior to 1507, having married Joneta Roger, who, as
widow and relict of John Finley, is described on March 9, 1507, as
obtaining a lease of a portion of the lands of Downy, in the Barony of
Glenisla. She was the daughter of William Roger, a renter of Cupar
Grange, who, in 1457,had a lease of one-twelfth portion for seven years,
and the lease was renewed, in 1468, by his son, William Roger, Jr., who
died in 1508. His son, William Roger III, married Marjorie Blair,
daughter of William Blair, Bailiff of Cupar Angus. On May 1, 1542, he
obtained from Abbott Donald Campbell a life lease of that portion of land
lessed by his father and by his grandfather. William Roger III appears as
Sheriff Deputy on April 23, 1544.
