Joshua was born in 1593 in St. Nicholas,Ipswich,Suff.,Eng. and his baptism took place in St. Nicholas,Ipswich,Suffolk,England. Joshua's father was George DOWNING and his mother was Miss BELLAMY. His paternal grandparents were George DOWNING and Mrs Cicely DOWNING; his maternal grandparents were Mr. BELLAMY and Mrs. BELLAMY. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, Emanuel, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Elnathan, Abigail, Nahomie, Susanna, Naomie and Anne.
