Katherine was born in October 1865 in Pittsburg Township,Mitchell,Pennsylvania. Katherine's father was William R. Couffer and her mother was Louisa Houser. Her paternal grandfather was William Couffer; her maternal grandparents were Michael Houser and Elizabeth. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William E., John F., George, Mary E., Alice Elizabeth, Emma, India Ola and Dona English. She died at the age of 59 in 1924. She was buried in Oak Hill Cemetary,Galena,Kansas.-
