George's father was William R. Couffer and his mother was Louisa Houser. His paternal grandfather was William Couffer; his maternal grandparents were Michael Houser and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and six sisters, named William E., John F., Mary E., Alice Elizabeth, Katherine, Emma, India Ola and Dona English.
George and Cora Viola were married in a religious ceremony in Jasper Co.,MO. They had a son named James Wesley.
