Melinda Carolina was born on July 16th, 1821 in Mill Creek Prec., Union Co., IL. Melinda Carolina's father was Benjamin Franklin McRaven and her mother was Margaret "Mildred or Milly" Vick. Her maternal grandparents were Joshua Vick and Rebecca Hargrove. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Joshua, Lewis Patrick, Daniel, George Washington, Pilgrim Dewitt, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary and Amelia. She was the fifth youngest of the ten children.
