Isabel was born about 1166. Isabel's father was Earl William de Ferrers and her mother was Sybil de Braose. Her paternal grandparents were Earl Robert de Ferrers and Countess Margaret de Peverel; her maternal grandparents were William II de Braose and Bertha de Gloucester. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William deFerrers VI Earl of, Robert, Agatha and Millicent. She was the second oldest of the five children.
