George was born about 1760 in Anne Arundel Co.,Maryland. George's father was Robert Shipley Jr. and his mother was Sarah Dorsey. His paternal grandparents were Robert Shipley Sr. and Elizabeth Stevens; his maternal grandparents were Michael Dorsey and Ruth Todd. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Edward, Robert, Rachel, Ann, Naomi, Lucy, Margaret, Mary and Nancy. He died in Kentucky.-
