While residing in Honoraville, Alabama, Charles joined the 1st Battalion
Hilliards Legion of the CSA in Greenville, Alabama as a private. He
reenlisted as a 2nd Sergeant September 1863 at Knoxville, Tennessee in
the 59th Alabama Infantry, Co. I. The Union Army captured him on 25
March 1865 at Hatches Run. He was taken to Point Lookout Prison in
Maryland and paroled on 25 June 1865. He was listed in the Alabama
Confederate Soldiers Census of 1907 as residing in Crenshaw Co., AL.

MORGAN-On Monday night last Charles H. Morgan passed away at his home at
Honoraville. Deceased was at the time of his death 85 years, 11 months
and 16 days old. More than 15 years over the allotted time for the life
of man. He was a native of Alabama having lived in this state all his
life except the time he spent as a soldier in the Civil War. When the
call for troops was given to fight in the Southland, he volunteered and
joined the Confederate Army and stayed with it until discharged. He left
surviving four sons Dr. M. L. Morgan, Thomas I., Frank and Eugene Morgan
and a large number of grandchildren. His remains were interred at the
family cemetery at Honoraville Wednesday morning. Revs. D. P. Lee of
Luverne and T. T. Dobbs of Black Rock officiating.(1)
