Dera Laduska was born in 1872 in Coosa Co., AL.1 Dera Laduska's father was Issac Marion Jacks and her mother was Sarah Louisa Moseley. Her paternal grandparents were John Jacks and Jane Maxey; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Acrhibald Moseley and Elizabeth Arnold Paschall. She had two sisters named Tura Odell and Vera Odessa. She was the oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named Alonzo A., Florence A., Allie, Sarah, Olive Clara and Scotta.-
