James Mason was born on March 8th, 1889.1   James Mason's father was James Frank Douglas and his mother was Emma Virginia McGowin.  His paternal grandparents were Silas William Douglas and Mason Emeline Trulove; his maternal grandparents were Jacob L. McGowin and Rebecca F. Moore. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Stephen Alexander, Ernest Frank, Joe L., Baby, Virginia Leotus, Alice Mason, Ruth Rebecca, Carrie Lee and Bertha Pauline.  He was the third oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named James Howard, Mary Emma, Evelyn Lee, Margaret Lois, Martha Geraldine and Elsie Lucille.  He died at 10 months old on January 27th, 1890.1
