"At his residence on Black River, New Hanover County, on the 13th ult.
James
Devane, Esq., aged 86 years. Mr. Devane was born and raised in New
Hanover
County. In our struggle for Independence, he took a firm and determined
stand on the side of his country, and has always been an active supporter
of
the Democratic principles of our Government. As a citizen, he was kind
and
charitable; as a father, faithful in the discharge of his domestic
duties."

James Devane was born 1 August, 1757 and died 13 March, 1840. He was the
son of John Devane (1730-1805) and Ann Larkin. James was married 1st to
Ann
Robinson, a daughter of Benjamin Robinson and Alice Poitevint. His second
wife was Margaret Canty. and died 13 March, 1840. He was the son of John
Devane (1730-1805) and Ann Larkin. James was married 1st to Ann
Robinson, a daughter of Benjamin Robinson and Alice Poitevint. His second
wife was Margaret Canty.
