Margaret Conde was the Niece of Prince Louis II de Bourbon, France, a
leader in the French Religious Wars. Margaret escaped from France dressed
as a page to her husband, Thomas DeVane. They first went to Scotland,
then to Barbados, finally to North Carolina in about 1720 and lived in
the Black River area of New Hanover County. They had the following
children. Mary, John, Thomas and Margaret. Notes taken from Jenerette
Family History and attributed to Vandon Jenerette III.
‌Margaret and Thomas were married in a religious ceremony in ?.1 They had a son and two daughters, named John, Sr., Margaret and Mary.

John, Sr. was born in 1734 in ?.1 He died at the age of 71 in 1805 in Wilmington, NC.1
