Joseph was born in 1846 in Montgomery Co., AL.1   Joseph's father was Allen Bradley and his mother was Mary A. Poly Sharp.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Bradley and Mary Manning. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Eli, Samuel, William, Eliza J., Elizabeth C., Martha, Desdemaona and Mary.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  He died in ?.1
