[coosa1.ged] Obituary of Salathiel. "Salathiel Bownds (better known as "Late") by his friends and neighbors, was born October 8, 1865 in LaVaca County near Halletsville. His family moved from there when he was quite young to Hays County, just west of Austin and there "Late" spent his boyhood days. He and his brothers, Jack, John and Henry helped their father make their likelihood by hearding sheep and cattle to keep them from straying away since none of the county was under fence. They often encountered wild animals at this task. His parents moved to Lee County while Late was a very young man. Craving the richer prarie land to settle here in order to have timber with which to fence their land, they bought sandy land than at a much higher price in order to have rails to fence with. Late and his wife settled on a farm adjoining his father's and reared their family. This farm was in the Liberty Community about six miles north west of Lexington. Their family consisted of eight children. One boy died in infancy. Late made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Alph Perry for the last two and a half years of his life.
