Born in a log home on Toftoy Creek in the Mount Olive Community of Coosa
County. In 1905 or 1906, her Father, Tom Jack Beaty and Mr. Ed Brown of
Parkdale, built the Beaty's new home just north of the log home on County
Road 49. She lived here, except for a few years after she married, the
rest of her life until 1974 when she and her husband moved to Huntsville.
Attended Brown School, (the Principal was O. S. House) which was located
between the Beaty home and the Hanover Community, about one and one-half
miles from her home. It was close enough that she walked to school. She
went here for approximately the first six years. She then transferred to
Sylacauga Agricultural College, (the Principal and Teacher was George
Thigpen) and went to live with her Aunt Parlie LeCroy. After about a
year, her parents moved to Sylacauga so she lived there with them. They
were there for approximately two years and returned to the Beaty home and
she returned to Brown School. She studied Algebra, Science, Sewing, and
Arithmetic, but did not graduate.
She is a member of the Eastern Star in Rockford, and played piano at
their meetings.
Was a member of Andrews Chapel Methodist Church from age 12 until she
married. Then transferred to Parkdale Methodist Church where she was at
one time the Chairman of the Board of Finance and also regularly played
piano at services. She would occasionally attend Mt. Olive Baptist
Church. When she moved to Huntsville, AL she joined The First United
Methodist Church.
She remembers the family living comfortably until sometime in 1929.
During the Depression they managed to continue a fairly good life with
the gardens and farm animals. They just didn't have any luxuries. She
and her husband (Thomas Fisk) farmed until she went to work at Avondale
Mills in 1935 in the Catherine Winding and Finishing room on the 2nd
shift. Her husband continued to farm. She retired in 1963. Had a part
in shipping samples of fabric all over the world.
Was delivered by Dr. Albert J. Peterson. He named her Leora after his
wife and Margaret after his sister.
Was married almost 67 years before Thomas Fisk passed away in 1987.
Her father and mother were Thomas Jackson Beaty and Agnes Cebright Lecory.
