His paternal grandparents were Alan la Zouche , Lord of North Molton and Alice de Belmeis , Heiress of Ashby & Tong; his maternal grandparents were Henry Biset , Lord of Kidderminster, Sir and Aubrey FitzRichard. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Alan, William, Lorette and Alice. He was the youngest of the five children.
