Eleanor was born in 1270 in Seagrave, Leicestershire.  Eleanor's father was Sir Nicholas de Segrave Baron Segrave and her mother was Matilda (Maud) de Lucy.  Her paternal grandparents were Sir Gilbert de Segrave II and Annabilia de Chaucombe; her maternal grandparents were Thomas de Multon III Baron Lucy and Isabel de Bolteby. She had four brothers named John de Segrave, Sir Nicholas, Sir Henry and Stephen.  She was the youngest of the five children.  She died at the age of 44 in 1314 in Brackley, Northamptonshire.

‌Eleanor and Alan de la Zouche were married in a religious ceremony in 1287.  They had three daughters named Elena, Maude and Elizabeth.
