Matilda was born in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.  Matilda's father was Sir Richard FitzRoger de Earl of Hertford and her mother was Amicia FitzRobert Cts de Gloucester.  Her paternal grandparents were Roger de Clare the Good Earl of Hertford and Maud de St. Hilary. She had two brothers named Richard (Roger) and Gilbert de Clare.  She died in 1213.


Matilda's first family with Roger 'Helle' de Lacy Lord Pontefract

‌Matilda and Roger 'Helle' de Lacy were married in a religious ceremony in 1192.  They had two sons and a daughter, named John de Lacy, Roger and Helen de l' Isle.


Matilda's second family with William de Braose IV the Younger

‌Matilda and William were married in a religious ceremony about 1197.  They had a son named John de Braose Tadody.


Matilda's third family with Rhys Gryg Prince of Deheubarth

‌Matilda and Rhys Gryg were married in a religious ceremony after 1210.  They had two sons named Maredyd ap Rhys Gryg and Rhys Mechyll ap Rhys Gryg.
