Joan de was born about 1251 in Curry Mallet, Langport, Somerset, England.  Joan de's father was William de Fortibus , Lord of Chewton and her mother was Maud (Matilda) de Ferrers.  Her paternal grandparents were Hugh de Vivonia , Lord of Chewton and Mabel Malet; her maternal grandparents were William III de Ferrers , 5th Earl of Derby and Sibyl Marshal. She had a sister named Cicely de.  She was the older of the two children.  She died on June 1st, 1314 in Chewton Mendip, Wells, Somerset, England.

‌Joan de and Reginald were married in a religious ceremony before 1274 in 2nd husband 2nd wife.  They had a son named Peter.
