Clemence de was born about 1183 in Peper Harow, Hambledon, Surrey, England.  Clemence de's father was Stephen de Turnham , of Artington & Berwick and her mother was Edeline de Broc , Heiress of Artington.  Her paternal grandfather was Robert de Turnham; her maternal grandparents were Randolph de Broc , of Angmering & Artington and Damietta de Gorram. She had two sisters named Beatrice de and Eleanor de.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She died before 1220.
