Waldelf was born before 1086 in Hepple, Rothbury, Northumberland, England. Waldelf's father was Ives (Ivo) de Taillebois , 1st Baron of Kendal and his mother was Judith of Lens. His maternal grandparents were Lambert of Boulogne , Count of Lens and Adelaide of Normandy , Countess of Aumale. He had two half-sisters named Matilda de and Alice de. He died in 1161.-
