Lambert of was born about 1022 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais, France. Lambert of's father was Eustace I Count of Boulogne and his mother was Mahaut (Maud) de Louvain. His paternal grandparents were Baudouin II Comte de Boulogne and Adele of Holland; his maternal grandparents were Lambert I "The Bearded" Count of Louvain and Gerberga of Lorraine.
