Roger 1st Baron le was born in 1234 in Knockin, Salopshire, England. Roger 1st Baron le's father was John III le Strange , Lord of Knockyn and his mother was Lucy de Tregoz. His paternal grandparents were John II le Strange , Lord Cheswardine & Nesse and Amice; his maternal grandparents were Robert I de Tregoz and Sibyl de Ewyas. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John IV le, Robert le, Hawise le and Katherine le. He was the third oldest of the five children. Roger Lestrange, 1st and last Lord (Baron) Strange (of Ellesmere), so created by writ of summons to the Parliament at Westminster 24 June 1295 and again 1 Nov 1295 and yet again 26 Jan 1296/7, though not thereafter; Sheriff of Yorks 1272-74, Justice of the Forest south of Trent 1283-96, served in Edward I's Welsh campaigns from 1276.
