Anna Dorthea's father was Andreas Shurts (Shurtz) and her mother was Catherina Appalonia. Her paternal grandparents were Michael Shurts (Shurtz) and Catherina. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Andreas, Johan Nicholas, Johannes, Anna, Anna, Anna Barbara, Anna Catherina, Anna Elizabeth, Eva and Maria.
