Bernard I was born about 0976 in Lunebourg, Saxony, Germany.  Bernard I's father was Hermann Billung Duke Of Saxony and his mother was Hildegarde Of Westerbourg.  His paternal grandparents were Billung Count In Saxony and Alda Of Saxony. He had a brother and two sisters, named Liudgar Of, Matilda Billung Of and Imma Abbess Of.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died on February 9th, 1011 in Corvey.
