William De Montacute Earl of was born in 1234. William De Montacute Earl of's father was William De Montacuto. His paternal grandparents were William De Montacuto and Isabel (Montacuto). He was an only child. He died at the age of 54 in 1288.

William was summoned to attend the king into Gascony against Alphonso X, King of Castile, who had usurped that province. The 41st of Henry III, 1257, he was summoned to be with the king at Chester on the feast day of St. Peter ad vincula, well furnished with horse and arms, thence to march against Llewellyn ap Griffith, Prince of Wales.
