William II de was born about 1240 in Ingmanthorpe, Kirk Deighton, Yorkshire, England. William II de's father was William I de Ros , MP, Lord of Helmsley, Sir and his mother was Lucy FitzPiers. His paternal grandparents were Robert de Ros , Lord of Helmsley, Sir Knight and Isabel of Scotland; his maternal grandparents were Piers (Peter) FitzHerbert , Lord of Bladen and Alice FitzRobert de Warkworth. He had a brother and a sister, named Robert IV "1st Baron" de and Lucy de. He was the youngest of the three children.
