Hywel Ap was born about 1085 in Deheaubarth, Wales.  Hywel Ap's father was King Of Deheubarth Rhys Ap Rhys Ap Tudor King Of Deheubarth/Tewdwr and his mother was Catrin Verch Iestyn. He had a brother named Llewelyn Ddiriaid Ap.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Gruffudd Ap, Nesta Verch and Margred Verch.
