Joan was born about 1320 in Grosmont Castle, Monmouthshire, Wales.  Joan's father was Henry Plantagenet , 3rd Earl of Lancaster, MP and her mother was Maud de Chaworth.  Her paternal grandparents were Edmund "Crouchback" Plantagenet , Earl Lancaster and Blanche d' Artois , Queen of Navarre; her maternal grandparents were Patrick de Chaworth , Lord of Kempsford and Isabel de Beauchamp. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Henry of Grosmont, Maud, Eleanor and Mary.  She died on July 7th, 1349 in Byland Abbey, Yorkshire, England.

‌Joan and John 3rd Baron de were married in a religious ceremony in 1st wife.  They had a son and a daughter, named John 4th Baron de and Eleanor (Alianore) de.
