Bernhard II was born in 1000. Bernhard II's father was Duke Bernhard Billung II OF SAXONY and his mother was Hildeburg VON STADE. His paternal grandparents were Duke Herman Billung OF SAXONY and Hildegarde OF WESTERBOURG; his maternal grandfather was Count Henry VON STADE. He was an only child.General Notes
Credited with the first unification of the country, convertedthe Danes to Christianity, and conquered Norway. After hisBaptism his fathers pagan tomb was transformed into a Christianplace of worship.
Introduced Christianity into Denmark, he had the famous Jellingrune stone erected in his parent memory. He was fatally woundedduring a rebellion by his son and successor, Sveng I.
They had a son named Ordulf.
