Adela of was born about 1062 in Rouen, Seine-Inferieure, Normandy, France.  Adela of's father was William I "The Conqueror" King of England and her mother was Matilda (Maud) of Flanders.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert I "The Magnificent" Duke of Normandy and Herleve (Arlette) de Falaise; her maternal grandparents were Baudouin V Count of Flanders and Adele (Aelis) Princess of France. She had three brothers named Robert II "Curthose" Duke of, William II "Rufus" King of and Henry I "Beauclerc" King of.  She was the second youngest of the four children. She had a half-sister named Gundred of.
