HUGH DE MUNCHENSY, (query uncle and) heir of the last-named Hubert [who was son of Hugh's elder brother Hubert], must have been in possession before 1164, because between 1158 and 1164, with his son (and then heir) Stephen, he confirmed the transference to Colne of the two monks whom Abbot Faritius of Abingdon had established at Edwardstone for the soul of his father Hubert. A charter of his is addressed to William, Bishop of Norwich (1146-75), and to all his men, French and English.
He married Alice, sister and coheir of Roger, brother and heir of Miles of Stoke near lpswich. He died before Michaelmas 1187. [Complete Peerage IX:414, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
