Roger de was born about 1231 in Cwmaron Castle, Radnorshire, Wales.  Roger de's father was Ralph de Mortimer , 2nd Lord of Wigmore and his mother was Gwladys "Ddu" verch Llewelyn , Princess of Wales.  His paternal grandparents were Roger de Mortimer , Lord of Wigmore, Sir and Isabel de Ferrers; his maternal grandparents were Llewelyn ap Iorwerth , Prince of Wales and Joan Plantagenet. He had two sisters named Maud de and Joan de.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died before October 30th, 1282 in Kingsland, Herefordshire, England.

‌Roger de and Maud de were married in a religious ceremony in 1247.  They had two sons and two daughters, named William de, Edmund 1st Baron de, Isabella de and Margaret de.
