Joan was born on July 22nd, 1190 in Newark Castle, Nottinghamshire, England.  Joan's father was John I "Lackland" Plantagenet King of England and her mother was Agatha de Ferrers.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry II "Curt Mantel" King of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine; her maternal grandparents were William I de Ferrers , 3rd Earl of Derby and Sybil de Braose. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Henry III Plantagenet King of, Richard, Richard, Joan and Eleanor.  She died after March 30th, 1236 in Court of Aberconway, North Wales.

‌Joan and Llewelyn ap were married in a religious ceremony in 1206.  They had three daughters named Gwladys "Ddu" verch, Angharad verch and Helen Ellen verch.
