Joan de was born about 1313 in Wigmore, Herefordshire, England.  Joan de's father was Roger de Mortimer , 1st Earl of March and her mother was Joan de Geneville , Heiress of Trim & Ludlow.  Her paternal grandparents were Edmund 1st Baron de Mortimer , 7th Lord Wigmore and Margaret de Fiennes; her maternal grandparents were Piers de Geneville , of Trim & Ludlow, Sir and Jeanne de Lusignan. She had a brother and six sisters, named Edmund de, Maud de, Margaret de, Agnes de, Katherine de, Blanche de and Beatrice de.  She died in Heleigh Castle, Audley, Staffordshire, England.

‌Joan de and James 2nd Baron de were married in a religious ceremony before June 13th, 1330.  They had a son and a daughter, named Nicholas 3rd Baron de and Joan de.
