Edmund 1st Baron de was born in 1261 in Wigmore, Herefordshire, England.  Edmund 1st Baron de's father was Roger de Mortimer , 6th Lord of Wigmore and his mother was Maud de Braose.  His paternal grandparents were Ralph de Mortimer , 2nd Lord of Wigmore and Gwladys "Ddu" verch Llewelyn , Princess of Wales; his maternal grandparents were William 6th Baron de Braose , Lord Abergavenny and Eva Marshal. He had a brother and two sisters, named William de, Isabella de and Margaret de.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 43 on July 17th, 1304 in Wigmore, Herefordshire, England.

‌Edmund 1st Baron de and Margaret de were married in a religious ceremony about 1285.  They had two sons and two daughters, named Roger de, John de, Maud de and Joan de.
