Mathilde of was born about 1130 in Lorraine, France. Mathilde of's father was Simon I Duke de Lorraine and her mother was Adelheid (Adelaide) de Louvain. Her paternal grandparents were Thierry II Duke of Alsace Lorraine and Hedwig von Formbach; her maternal grandparents were Henry III Count of Louvain and Gertrude of Flanders. She had a brother and a sister, named Mathieu I Duke of and Agathe de. She was the youngest of the three children.-
